FAQ's regarding Franziska's services

Choosing a Design

All my cakes are bespoke and made to order. I can either design something new or you can choose a design from my galleries. If you decide to choose a design from my galleries I can change colours and flowers to compliment your specifications.

Consultations and cake tasting

Consultations are by appointment  with no obligation. Remember to bring along your ideas, and colour samples. If you would like a cake tasting, just ask and I will make you a fresh cake of your choice and you may try a piece of my drambuie fruit cake. This service is free of charge.

When to order.

I recommend a minimum of 3 months notice when ordering wedding and civil ceremony cakes. I accept orders at shorter notice, depending on my availability for your date. If your wedding/civil ceremony is in the busy wedding months, order your cake as soon as possible: I am always turning away customers!

Payment terms

To confirm an order, a non-refundable deposit of £50 is required. The final balance is due one week before the delivery or on collection of the cake. I accept payment by cheque and BACS transfer.

Delivery.

If you like to have your cake delivered and set up, I offer the following service. Local delivery is free of charge. For central London I charge £25. Delivery for the rest of the country is £1 per mile (one-way) from N14 7DG. If you would rather pick the cake up yourself, I have the cake ready and boxed for you the day before your wedding day  if it is a sponge cake; for a fruitcake it can be picked up much earlier.

Stand hire

I supply all of the stands for my wedding cakes. A cheque deposit of £100 is required. This is held in your file until the stand is returned to me. Stands must be returned within 4 days. You can request to return it later, but this is only possible if the stand isn't already required the following week. Most Venues have their own silver cake stands. I have some of my own cake stands which are especially useful for the bigger cakes.

Cakes decorated with fresh flowers

I do not recommend using fresh flowers on wedding cakes. Although wedding cakes with fresh flowers are wonderful to look at, you need to think about safety. To insure that all your guests are safe you must first ensure that the flowers you are choosing do not have any toxins in them. Many flowers are toxic for human consumption and therefore you absolutely cannot use them on your wedding cake. This is further complicated by pesticides and chemicals used to keep cut flowers fresh during transport. Unfortunately, when designing wedding cakes with fresh flowers, it is not only the toxic flowers you must worry about. Even if a flower is non-toxic, you will need to ensure that they are not grown in an area with heavy use of pesticide. If you choose to use fresh flowers on your cake I will not be liable for any contamination to the cake.

Cakes decorated with non-edible materials

The use of non-edible materials for cake decoration is increasingly popular. Please note that the 'craft jewels' and accessories such as brooches, ribbons, silk flowers, diamantes, beads, feathers, etc. which can be used to decorate cakes are not edible and must be removed from your cake before serving. All decorative gems and accessories I only use at the clients request; responsibility for the complete removal of such artifacts lies with the client. I accept no responsibility for any physical harm that may arise from their use.
